The Sound of Colours: A Morning of Music, Movement and Discovery

On 20 June 2026, Neko Music Center welcomed young learners to TT3 SOHO Commercial, Kuching, for The Sound of Colours, a music adventure programme designed to help children experience music in a fun and hands-on way.

Instead of sitting in a classroom, the participants explored music through a series of interactive stations. Working in small groups, they moved from one activity to another, discovering different musical skills along the way.

Each station was represented by a colour and focused on a different aspect of music.

Red Rhythm – Keeping the Beat

At the Red Rhythm station, children learned how to feel and maintain a steady beat. Through playing on bucket and group activities, they experienced rhythm in a way that was active and enjoyable.

Yellow Melody – Listening and Singing

This station encouraged children to listen carefully, recognise pitch differences, and respond through singing and simple melody games. It was a chance for them to explore how melodies are created and remembered.

Green Control – Playing with Purpose

At the Green Control station, children explored how musicians make purposeful decisions when performing. Through activities such as identifying major and minor sounds, they learned to listen carefully and recognise how different musical choices can create different moods and emotions. The station encouraged concentration, control, and awareness, helping participants understand that every note, dynamic, and musical action has a purpose.

Blue Expression – Music and Movement

Music is more than just notes and rhythms. At this station, children explored how music can tell stories, express feelings, and inspire movement. Their creativity brought each activity to life.

Purple Thinking Skills – Music Detective

The final station challenged children to think, observe, and solve musical puzzles. They worked together to uncover clues and complete tasks that tested both their listening skills and teamwork.

Learning Through Experience

Participants were divided into groups and rotated through all the stations throughout the morning. This allowed everyone to experience each activity while keeping the programme lively and engaging.

One of the most rewarding moments was seeing participants become more confident as the programme progressed. Some were initially quiet and cautious, but gradually became more willing to take part, share ideas, and support one another during the activities.

Beyond music, the programme encouraged communication, problem-solving, cooperation, and creative thinking. Most importantly, it provided a space where learning felt natural and enjoyable.

A Special Keepsake

Before heading home, every participant received a learning journey card summarising the musical concepts they had explored during the programme. It served as a simple reminder of the experiences and discoveries made throughout the day.
